United Way New Zealand was established in 1975. Their mission is "to help build community capacity to improve quality of life through voluntary action and giving". They do this by collecting contributions through payroll giving, as well as receiving corporate donations and designated funding from overseas sources.
This money is pooled with funds provided by The Tindall Foundation and allocated to small and medium sized organisations through United Way's Allocation Volunteer Programme (AVP). The AVP is supported by individuals from the public and business sectors, and enables United Way to pass on 100% of what they receive to deserving causes throughout New Zealand.
United Way is The Tindall Foundation's largest Funding Manager, allocating funds to six regions across New Zealand - Auckland (excluding Manukau City), Manawatu/Horowhenua, Top of the South, Canterbury (excluding mid-Canterbury), Otago and Southland - in the Programme Area of Supporting Families and Social Services.
